Render Farm Pricing Compared: Get a Price Overview From All the Major Render Farms

01. April, 2026 · Posts

Choosing a render farm comes down to more than just price per hour. Different farms structure their pricing differently, offer different discount models, and show costs in different currencies. To make a fair comparison, we took two example jobs and ran them through the pricing calculator of each render farm.

All prices are estimates from each farm's official pricing calculator. Actual render costs depend on scene complexity, render engine, and settings. Always run your own test frames before committing to a full job. EUR prices converted to USD at approximately 1.10.

The two jobs we compared

Job 1; short animation 500 frames, 5 minutes per frame, on a single RTX 4090

Job 2; commercial project 5,000 frames, 15 minutes per frame, on a dual RTX 4090

Job 1: 500 frames, 1x RTX 4090, 5 min per frame

Base price, no bulk discounts applied.

Farm Cost (USD) Estimated render time
Drop & Render $209 1h 11m
Fox Render Farm $239 Not shown
GarageFarm $270 3h 41m
Ranch Computing $514 49m
Rebus Farm $535 Not shown

Job 2: 5,000 frames, 2x RTX 4090, 15 min per frame

For this job we applied the best available bulk credit purchase at each farm to get the most out of each discount tier.

Farm Cost (USD) Estimated render time
Drop & Render $5,578 2 days 17h
Fox Render Farm $7,197 Not shown
GarageFarm $9,500 1 week 2 days 1h
Ranch Computing $13,750 1 day 17h

A few things worth noting from these results:

  • Render time estimates vary significantly. Ranch Computing shows 1 day 17h for Job 2 while GarageFarm shows over a week. This reflects the number of nodes each farm allocated, not necessarily the underlying speed of their hardware.
  • Fox Render Farm and Rebus Farm do not show a time estimate in their calculators. For large jobs, it is worth contacting their support teams directly for a time projection.
  • These are all estimates. Scene complexity, sample counts, and render engine settings can all move the final number. Use the official calculators with your own benchmark settings for the most accurate result.

How render farm discounts work

Every farm on this list offers volume discounts, but they work in two fundamentally different ways. Understanding the difference matters when you are comparing prices across farms.

Direct discount: you pay less per render unit. A 40% discount means you pay 60 cents per dollar of rendering. Straightforward and easy to compare. Rebus Farm uses this model.

Bonus credit model: you pay the standard rate but receive extra credits on top. A "70% bonus" means you receive 1.70x the credits, which works out to an effective saving of about 41%, not 70%. GarageFarm, Ranch Computing, and Drop & Render use this model.

Fox Render Farm uses a cumulative lifetime spend model. Your discount tier is determined by how much you have spent across all your projects over time, rather than by a single purchase. This means the discount grows the more you use the platform.

Discount overview

Farm Model Currency Entry point Max tier Max effective saving
Fox Render Farm Cumulative tiers USD $500 lifetime $10,000 lifetime 40% off
GarageFarm Bonus credits (slider) USD ~$250 ~$12,500 ~50% effective
Drop & Render Bonus credits (8 tiers) EUR €100 €20,000 ~43% effective
Ranch Computing Bonus credits (7 tiers) EUR €250 €20,000 ~41% effective
Rebus Farm Direct discount USD ~$590 $23,500 60% off

Farm profiles

Drop & Render

A Dutch farm with the most granular discount ladder of the group. Rewards start at just E100, so there is no large minimum commitment before you begin saving. Eight fixed tiers go up to a 75% bonus at €20,000. A practical option for European studios working at any budget level.

GarageFarm

Popular in the motion graphics and archviz community for its straightforward pipeline and wide plugin support. Their discount slider is continuous rather than fixed tiers, so you receive a proportional bonus on any top-up amount. The 100% bonus at roughly $12,500 is the strongest single-purchase deal in this comparison.

Rebus Farm

One of the longest-running render farms in the industry, operating since 2009. Their direct discount model is the most transparent of the group: no bonus credit conversions, just a clear percentage off what you pay. The maximum 60% discount at the top tier is the deepest true price reduction across all five farms.

What else to consider

Price is an important factor, but all five farms here are established professional services that have been running for years. Here is what else is worth weighing before you choose.

Software and plugin support. Check that your exact DCC version, render engine, and plugins are supported before committing. One incompatible plugin version can stop a job.

Support quality. Fox Render Farm is well known for fast response times. Rebus Farm has a deep support ecosystem built over 15 years of operation.

Data security. For productions under NDA, Ranch Computing's TPN Gold Shield certification is a meaningful differentiator that matters to certain broadcast and games clients.

Render time vs cost. A cheaper farm is not always faster. The wall-clock time depends on how many nodes a farm can allocate to your job. Sometimes paying more means finishing sooner, which has its own value when working toward a deadline.

Test frames, always. Every farm on this list provides free trial credits. Send 2 to 3 representative frames, including your heaviest frame, before submitting a full job. This confirms both the cost estimate and that your scene renders correctly on their hardware.

FAQ

What is a render farm? A render farm is a network of powerful computers that renders your 3D project in the cloud. Instead of waiting days for your local machine to finish, the farm distributes your frames across hundreds or thousands of machines simultaneously, completing the same job in hours. You pay only for the compute time you use.

How does GPU render farm pricing work? Most GPU render farms charge by the OctaneBench-hour (OBh), a unit that measures GPU throughput. Your RTX 4090 has an OctaneBench score of roughly 700. A frame that takes 5 minutes on your machine consumes about 58 OBh on the farm. The farm multiplies that by their rate per OBh to get your cost. Because OBh is hardware-independent, the total cost is the same regardless of which GPU generation the farm assigns to your job.

What is the difference between a bonus credit and a direct discount? A direct discount reduces your price per render unit immediately. A bonus credit gives you extra credits on top of your payment at the standard rate. A 70% bonus sounds larger than a 40% discount, but the effective savings are nearly the same (41% vs 40%). Always convert bonus percentages before comparing across farms.

How much does it cost to render a 500-frame GPU animation on a render farm? Based on our calculator comparison, a 500-frame animation rendered on a single RTX 4090 equivalent, with 5 minutes per frame, costs between $209 and $535 depending on the farm. The variation reflects differences in base pricing rather than quality. Always run your specific scene through each farm's calculator to get an accurate estimate.

Do render farm credits expire? Most major farms allow credits to roll over indefinitely. Rebus Farm explicitly states that RenderPoints never expire. Verify the current policy with any farm before making a large bulk purchase, as terms can change.

Can I use any render engine on a cloud render farm? All five farms in this comparison support the major GPU render engines including Redshift, Octane, Arnold GPU, and V-Ray GPU. Plugin and version support varies by farm. Check the farm's current software list for your exact engine version before submitting, especially if you are using third-party plugins.

Is cloud rendering cheaper than buying your own hardware? For occasional large projects, cloud rendering is almost always more cost-effective than purchasing dedicated hardware. For studios with consistently heavy workloads, the comparison is closer. The main advantages of a farm are speed through parallelisation, no upfront hardware investment, and the ability to scale up for a deadline without owning the infrastructure year-round.

Are the prices in this article accurate? They are estimates from each farm's official calculator based on the job settings described. Actual costs depend on your scene, render engine settings, and the complexity of individual frames. These numbers should be used as a starting point for comparison. Always verify with your own test frames through each farm's calculator before committing to a full job.

Prices and discount structures were last verified on 31 March 2026. Render farm pricing changes regularly.
